API had the opportunity to attend a STEM festival at a local high school here in Oakland, the Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy!  We got to collaborate with the Biomedical Engineering Society and help teach elementary and middle schoolers all about prosthetics. With the materials we provided, they were able to create paper hands. Each finger had multiple joints made from cut up straws and had a string running through them which could be pulled on so they could curl in. After the kids were done making their pieces, they even tried picking up foam balls by pulling on all the strings simultaneously! This demonstrated the normal movement of a hand through the use of atypical materials.
